Dear Client,
On February 4, 2025, the Council of Ministers approved the Draft Law on the Reduction of Working Hours in Spain. This significant labor reform aims to enhance work-life balance, productivity, and employee rights.
Key Provisions of the New Working Hours Law
Fewer hours, same salary: The maximum ordinary working hours will be reduced from 40 hours per week to an annual average of 37-37.5 hours, without affecting employees’ salaries.
Mandatory digital work-hour tracking: A digital time-tracking system will be implemented, ensuring remote accessibility for the Labor and Social Security Inspectorate.
Right to digital disconnection: Employees will receive stronger protection against being required to respond to work communications outside their working hours.
Impact on Businesses and Employees
This reform will affect all sectors, particularly impacting part-time employees working more than 37.5 hours per week, who will be reclassified as full-time employees.
A transition period will be implemented to help businesses and collective agreements adapt to these changes.
The law is expected to take effect on December 31, 2025.
